Project 1 : Defining and Documenting a Project
Project 1 : Skeletal Construction (Temporary Bus Shelter)
In a group of 5, we were required to build a 1:5 scale model of the shelter and produce an A3 bound report complete with visuals, sketches and inclusive of the detailing and progressive documentation of our project. .
Learning Objectives:
-
To create an understanding of skeletal structure and its relevant structural components.
-
To understand how a skeletal structure reacts under loading.
-
To demonstrate a convincing understanding of how skeletal construction works.
-
To be able to manipulate skeletal construction to solve an oblique design problem.

Project 2 : Understanding Forces in Building Construction

---|
In a group of 4-5, we are to pick a building (tensile/membrane construction or grid shell construction) and identify the structural systems used in the construction of the building of your choice. We were required to produce 1 construction detail model with suitable scale and materials to fit on an A3 size base as wells as 2 A2 size sheet analysing the tensile structure and modelling process.
Learning Objectives:
-
To create an understanding of building components used and its assembly.
-
To demonstrate good drawing skills in building details and how it reacts under loading and force.
-
To be able to manipulate the selection of materials used and ensure its buildability.
