This activity helps to foster a sense of care and concern among students for their community and the world at large. This can be your village, an orphanage or a distant dying species. In the process of recognizing and taking steps to meet the needs of others, creative, critical and reflective skills will be enhanced. Students will also develop their personal and social responsibility, and learn about the resources available to people for revitalizing their communities.

Learning Objectives:

  • To inculcate a sense of social responsibility in the students.

  • To promote the culture of caring and respect towards all members of society.

  • To understand the community around them.

  • To understand themselves in relation to their community.

Activity Day at Rumah Keluarga Kami

Reflective Journal

This project gave us an opportunity to contribute back to the community. Most of the children, nowadays, lack of the exposure of how their food is being brought to them from their origin, as most of the time, food is prepared for and plated up to them. The activity we proposed gave them a brief idea of how food is being grown and processes passed through before ending up to the end-consumers. This helped them to appreciate the efforts given into preparing meals.

The impression I had from spending time at Rumah Keularga Kami is never underestimate the congeniality of those kids even at the first meeting between with new people to them. "Hi, sisters! shouted out loud from the first floor window from a kid, the very moment we arrived. Soon we found ourselves very quickly getting along with them. Besides seeing their children enjoyed themselves during the activity, there are  applaudable behaviors noticed. One of the most notable quality I learn from the kids is their altruism. The older children have shown their awareness and responsibility to look after the young. They are so ready to share things, to cheer up one another, supportive of each other and even give up their possessions for their mates in many situations. Kids living in communal environment probably have horned these qualities out of them as their time are always spend together. Overall, it was a constructive time spent with the kids.
