Project 1 : Defining and Documenting a Project
Project 1 : Structural Design Post Mortem
Students are required to choose a final design scheme produced by one of the group members, preferably have a huge room for improvement in terms of structural design. Then, discuss the existing structural system and propose modification to improve the structural system.
Learning Objectives:
-
To appraise the existing structural design of a building proposed by students.
-
To discuss the solutions to improve the existing structural design.
-
To modify the design and propose a new scheme with appropriate structural system.
Visitor Interpretive Centre
My final design of previous semester was selected as the case study for this project. The main structural issue is the questionable suitability of structural system adopted in the design with the high exposed tendency.
Project 2 : Structural Analysis of a Bungalow
Students are required to produce a set of structural drawings of a selected building, and a structural analysis report with a summary of the weight of materials and live load assumed, and analysis of beams and columns.
Learning Objectives:
-
To introduce students to the basic process of structural design of a two-storey bungalow.
-
To enable the students to gain a holistic structural design experience including the basic concepts in structural design, engineering considerations in building structure, quantification of loads and stresses, as well as the estimation of the sizes of structural members
Akanaka Residence by RAW Architecture
A residence consisting of 19 serviced bedrooms, in 2 levels building with an open-air corridor, located in South Jakarta, was selected to conduct structural analysis for this project.
